A new app will make the parks and greenways in North Carolina safer. Lee Jones is the Director of the Park and Recreation with Mecklenburg County. He stated that he is happy about the app because now people will feel safer when they are visiting the parks.
In the past, when there was an injury or a fallen tree, emergency responders were not able to get to the scene in time. They were not able to respond because they did not know exactly where the victim was located. However, the new app, which will be released in June, will help people pinpoint the exact location.
According to Fox46 Charlotte, Lee Jones stated the technology is necessary because more people are visiting the local parks. The summer will be here soon, and he wants people to know that their safety is their top priority. Lee also stated that people can rest assured that they will be in a safe environment. If they have any questions, then they can also get in touch with someone through the app.
Nathan King is Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Captain. He stated that Charlotte has over 40 greenways. That is why it can take a long time for people to get help when they need it. There have been cases when it has taken the police 30 to 45 minutes to find a person.
Nathan stated that the new app will help people save time. Not only will this help keep people safe, but it will also ensure that the parks stay maintained. People can report things like slippery boardwalks and downed trees. Employees will be able to rectify the problem quickly.
People can also use the app to report graffiti. Someone can take a photo of the graffiti and send it in. After that, someone will come and remove it.
