A new cell phone app can help first responders find you even if you are unconscious. Kourtney Isafamba wished that she had this app nine years ago when she got into a serious car accident.
She spent 48 hours trapped in a car because no one knew where she was. Kourtney yelled for help many times, but no one heard her. She had two phones in her car, but she was unable to reach either one of them. Fortunately, she was saved when a police officer found her.
The new app, which was designed by Noonlight, can sense if you are in a car accident. Even if you are trapped and cannot get to your phone, you will still be able to get help. Nick Dreoge is the co-founder of Noonlight. He stated that when people are in a car accident, the last thing they need to worry about is how they are going to get help.
There was a BMW crash test done to test the effectiveness of the app. They found that the app was extremely effective for detecting crashes in accidents that were above 30 miles per hour. However, it was not as effective for detecting crashes that occurred at lower speeds.
Kourtney is happy that people now have an app that will help in an accident. She knows that people will not have to go through the same ordeal that she went through. However, she still questions how the app will work. She wonders how the app will know if an accident occurred. A person may have just dropped their phone.
This new technology may have helped several crash victims in Maine. A young woman was killed when she got into an accident while she was traveling on I-95. She had her five-year-old and 18-month-old in the car with her. They survived the accident, but they had to spend the entire night in the car.
Nine months ago, a man spent 10 hours trapped in his car before he was rescued. The app will cost $10 per month. However, Noonlight’s panic button is free.
