University of Tennessee classes will be coming to an end soon. According to the police, this is the time of the year when crime increases. The reason that crime spikes is because property is often left unattended. Many students are in the library cramming for exams, and they may get up and leave their belongings behind.
Delaney Tureson and Magdelene Smith-Stephney were studying in Hodges Library. They stated that they were both aware of the fact that their laptops could have been stolen. They said that they see students’ laptops get stolen all of the time when they get up and walk away for a minute.
Magdelene stated that she would cry if her laptop was taken because it is her whole world. Fortunately, there is an app that can help students report thefts and other suspicious activities that happen on campus.
The name of the app is LiveSafe. People can use the app to get in touch with the officers. People can take pictures and send video footage to the police. After that, the officers will come out to investigate.
Mike Williams is a police officer at the school. He said that many of the students walk by themselves at night, so the app will ensure that they do not have to walk alone. People can watch you walk even if they do not have the app. All you have to do is send the link to a friend.
Magdelene recently used the app and asked Delaney to watch her walk home. She stated that you have to be careful walking to the dorms at night. The app gives her extra reassurance.
One of the benefits that comes along with using the app is that you can communicate with the police in silence. This can be beneficial in an active shooter situation.
