When you create a new document with the Microsoft Word 2016 application, the program will display all pages in portrait mode by default. However, you can customize the layout of pages as you develop the document. By inserting section breaks into the layout, you can choose to have certain pages with portrait orientation and others with landscape orientation. These settings are preserved when you print the Word document or export it to another format like PDF.

Step 1:

Open the Microsoft Word 2016 application on your PC from the Start menu in the lower-left corner of the screen.

Step 2:

Choose to start a new blank document, open an existing document, or begin building a new document based on an Office template.

Step 3:

Place your text cursor at the point in the document where you want to change the layout orientation.

Step 4:

Go to the “Layout” tab in the ribbon bar at the top of the Word 2016 window.

Step 5:

Click on the “Breaks” button in the “Page Setup” section of the ribbon bar and choose “Next Page” under the “Section Breaks” list. Word will now automatically jump to the next page of the document without impacting any text above it.

Step 6:

Click on the “Orientation” button in the ribbon bar and choose either the “Portrait” or “Landscape” option. This will change the layout orientation for only the section where your cursor is currently located.

Step 7:

Add additional section breaks in the document to make further changes to the layout orientation of the document. Keep in mind that a section must be at least one page long, and individual pages must either be portrait or landscape.

When clicking on the paragraph symbol in the “Home” section of the ribbon bar, section breaks will be displayed graphically within the document’s layout. For more information on section breaks and page orientations, consult the Microsoft support website.
