The biggest social network in the world was having some very big problems on Thanksgiving. There were millions of users in the United States that could not log into Facebook or use many of the apps associated with it. The same problems applied to Instagram. The problems kept happening for a few hours. However, the issue was resolved in the middle of the afternoon. It turns out that the problem was caused by a software glitch. Facebook techs took longer to fix the problem than was expected. The issue was a bummer to many people who were looking forward to chatting with loved ones in the morning and early afternoon of Thanksgiving.

This is not the first time something like this has happened to Facebook. They have had long periods of time where their service has not been accessible to users. This type of problem is bound to happen at a tech company. However, that does not make the problem any less annoying for people to deal with when they want to chat with a friend or post some pics of their latest trip. People also had problems posting any photos to Instagram at the same time that Facebook was having problems.

Facebook also owns WhatsApp. The good news is that this platform was not impacted by any of these software issues on Thanksgiving. It is a very big issue whenever Facebook or Instagram go down for any length of time. This is because there are advertisers who spend a lot of cash for people to see their ads on these massive social media platforms. Therefore, these advertisers can get justifiably angry if technical problems prevent their ads from being seen at specific times. There have been a few other times this year when Facebook went offline for a long time. This looks like it is something that users of the social media giant will just need to accept.

The good news about the latest Facebook technical mishap is that is was fixed a lot more quickly than previous incidents. There have been times where a Facebook outage has lasted the better part of a day. That was not the case this time. It was a few hours. However, people were still voicing their anger on Twitter when they discovered that they could not log on to the site. Facebook says that the software that caused the problem has been replaced.
