Google hasn’t released much information on upcoming Android builds, but two leaks on Saturday, April 23rd, 2022, provided the first knowledge of the next two upcoming builds of the Android OS.
Android 13 and 14 Named
Google plans to present about the build of Android 13 at the Google I/O 2022 event on Wednesday, May 11th, 2022. Before the company unveils its PowerPoint to show off the updates to the OS, one employee did leak the code name of the build – Tiramisu.
While Tiramisu doesn’t give us much of a hint as to the changes to the operating system, the posting of a screenshot to Android Open Source Project, reported on 9to5Google revealing the update of Android 14 to Upside Down Cake.
Android 13 Features
But wait. Does this reveal something by reading between the lines? Perhaps Android 13 won’t make any big changes because, if it did, why would the manufacturer need to quickly follow it up with another update? Shouldn’t the thirteenth update improve functionality enough that Google would not need another update so soon?
According to XDA Developers, Android 13 won’t look different than Android does now. It will introduce multi-user NFC payments, native support for DNS over HTTPS and a feature to let users disable Phantom Process Killer, so a power user can let apps run in the background, while others can save battery power and open up RAM by killing processes. The build also includes enhancements to Bluetooth audio and Panlingual, a setting that lets the user set languages by app. Other settings improvements include the energy management feature The Android Resource Economy (TARE) and lock screen clock layouts.
Google Keeps Android 14 Knowledge Secret
Only the name surfaced of Android 14. What updates it holds, Google is keeping secret for now. The manufacturer will likely try to improve its market share since it lost about eight percent market share to iOS/Apple since 2018.
