LG usually launches its flagship G-Series android smartphones during the first half of the year. But this year it will reportedly launch its next flagship G-series phone — codenamed Judy — this June.
Evan Blass, who is a journalist well known for leaking details of upcoming devices, believes that the new LG phone will include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip. It will also have 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal storage, wireless charging, boombox speakers, and it will be resistant to dust, water and impacts.
Blass also released details about the device’s screen. Most notably, it will be 6.1″ and have a 18:9 screen aspect ratio. This would make the screen significantly larger than the one that comes with the G6 — LG’s current flagship phone — which is 5.7″. Blass further noted that the phone would not be called the G7.
The new phone’s display will utilize a MLCD+ panel. The panel will be able to reach a brightness level of 800 nits and reduce power consumption by as much as 35% in comparison with standard IPS panels. This means that the device is capable of being far brighter than Apple’s iPhone X, which can reach a maximum brightness level of 625 nits. A nit measures brightness relative to candlelight. So a nit value of 800 means that it would have the equivalent brightness of 800 candles lighting an area of one square meter.
LG’s new phone will also have dual cameras, and each of these cameras will have 16 megapixel sensors. They will also each have f/1.6 lenses. Blass further believes that the camera system will include some form of artificial intelligence (AI). LG had already announced that it would be demonstrating AI technologies available on the upcoming V30s phone when it shows off the device later this month at the MWC show.
Finally, Blass went on to say that, while the new phone will be launched in June, it likely won’t be available around the world until this summer.
