If you witness a crime in New York City, then you will have an easier time reporting it now thanks to a new app. The NYPD released a free app on Thursday that allows people to report crime from their smart phone. It is available on Android and IOS devices.

NYPD funded the app. They also received funds from the New York City Police Foundation. It is a new way to report crime. In the past, people who had tips would have to call a number in order to report a crime. Officials stated that this app will make it easier for people to report a crime.


Dermont Shea is the Chief of Detectives for NYPD. He stated that this new app shows that the Crime Stoppers program is evolving. Susan Birnbaun is the president of the Police Foundation. She stated that anyone who lives in NYC will be able to use the app to report crimes.

The Crime Stoppers headquarters is located in the NYPD headquarters. It has a staff of 20 people. They receive a variety of tips coming from the different boroughs. This includes misdemeanor crimes, homicides and sexual assaults.

You will be able to find the app by doing a search for NYPD Crime Stoppers. It is important to note that there are a variety of other ways that you will be able to report a crime.
