After a failed integration with Microsoft and Windows Mobile, legendary Finnish tech giant Nokia is looking towards the future as it embraces the latest version of the Android mobile operating system. According to a recent news report published by Yahoo Digital Trends, many of its post-Lumia smartphones are expected to receive an over-the-air update to the new Oreo flavor of Android; furthermore, the hotly anticipated Nokia 8 will be one of the first and most advanced mobile devices powered by Android Oreo.
HMD Global, the electronics firm currently manufacturing smartphones under the Nokia brand, will provide operating system upgrades for customers who own the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 handsets. Additionally, the Nokia 8 will be the first flagship smartphone of the generation following the discontinued Nokia Lumia line, which was part of the Microsoft generation.
The upcoming Nokia 8 will also have a maximum specs model, which will be marketed as the Nokia 9 in the United States. This smartphone is expected to have 6GB of RAM, making it one of the fastest Android Oreo devices on the market; its internal flash memory storage will have a capacity of 128GB with a dynamic partition system to allow more apps to be installed.
Nokia is still trying to recover from its short-lived partnership with Microsoft. Although the Nokia Lumia devices powered by Windows were enthusiastically received in many parts of the world, they mostly failed to conquer the American and Asian markets where Android rules supreme. One of the problems was that the mobile app ecosystem of the Windows Store never lived up to its full potential, and the operating system itself began to fall behind the development curve.
With Android Oreo, which is also known as Android 8.0, Nokia will have an opportunity to develop exclusive apps that take advantage of certain hardware features. The new operating system supports the new high-fidelity Bluetooth format which will finally bring quality audio to wireless headsets and earphones. Everything will operate faster: from cold boots to apps and from gestures to web browsing, Android Oreo is built for faster overall performance without having to sacrifice battery life.
Another advantage that Nokia will have with Android Oreo and later versions is that the new release system, which is called Android Treble, will allow seamless upgrades. The new look of Android is being modeled based on Material Design principles recommended by Google.
