It’s something we worry about every day. You know, how has technology changed security in my hometown? It’s a question I’ve been considering recently. The increased use of smartphones is one big change to security that has happened in Chicago, Illinois, over the last few years, and it is easy to see why. Below are some ways in Chicago, Illinois, security has changed with the introduction of smartphone technology.

1. Checking in and Checking Out

In the past, when you checked into a hotel or wanted to make sure your stuff was safe in a locker, you had to use paper records of some sort. These could be misplaced or even taken if someone broke into the facility. Nowadays, those using smartphones can employ apps that allow them to check into their facilities using a smartphone. The benefit is that no one can take your ID papers if they break in as they are stored on your mobile device. A thief could get your ID cards but, without the passwords for your account or phone, would not be able to do anything with it. Likewise, you can check out a facility using your phone. For example, if you are getting on a plane and leaving security at the airport, you can leave your bag in one of their lockers and check out using your smartphone.

2. Notifications

Before smartphones, people would have to rely on security guards or others to let them know when their possessions were left behind or if there was a problem. Nowadays, you can use smartphone apps to receive notifications if the alarm is activated or if someone tries to break into your property. This gives you peace of mind that your things are safe.

3. Tracking Your Stuff

If you have the property that you are not able to take with you, such as a house, car, or even your bike, you have the option to track it down with the help of apps. In the past, it was difficult to know if your stuff was safe at a facility like an airport as they wouldn’t tell if it had been stolen or not.

4.Videos

Smartphones allow you to take videos of anything around you. This has changed security in Chicago, Illinois, over recent years. Police departments are now using smartphones to keep track of underage drinking, drug use, and other illegal activities and keep an eye on the Police force. They can do this by recording any interactions they have with members of the public as well as using them to track criminals.

Smartphones have greatly impacted Chicago, Illinois, security in recent years. This includes using apps to provide better access to facilities and locations, the ability to keep track of your belongings, and even video surveillance. The simple fact that someone can have a smartphone and be able to monitor their movements has changed security in Chicago, Illinois, over recent years.
