Interesting news comes out of Australia. The Victorian government decided to become a little more Android-friendly. Android users can now process payments for travel fees associated with the state’s public transportation network. People rely on their smartphones to handle a variety of payments. Accessing an app to send a payment, big or small, makes things easier. Unfortunately, Android smartphone users were entirely out of luck when taking public transportation in Victoria. All that changes now that to the favorable decision by government officials. Android users can use the myki mobile app for payment processing.

Fans of Android smartphone users possess a preference for the operating system. Unfortunately, Android smartphones don’t always receive the same access as other popular devices and operating systems. Even with Google’s backing, Android OS runs into compatibility roadblocks here and there. The Victoria transport system reflected a roadblock for quite some tie. All that comes to an end with the new decision.

Likely, the Victoria government doesn’t want to discourage people from using public transportation. Increasing access to Android smartphone users helps draw more people to public transit. In addition to cutting down on emissions, increasing the number of public transportation users brings more revenue to the treasury.

The Victoria government probably prefers to cut down on cash and coin transactions. While the government surely wishes to collect as much revenue as possible, doing so in a less cumbersome way. Fidgeting with coins holds up lines. Tapping an app that automates payments moves things swifter. The government gets its payment deposits quicker as well.

Fans of Android smartphones likely wonder why it took so long for Victoria to cater to them. Sometimes, bureaucracies work slow, and budget issues play a role. Regardless, the wait is over. Android users can now pay for service the easy way.
