There is no bigger online retailer on the planet than Amazon. Therefore, the company needs many vehicles in order to make all of their deliveries. Needless to say, the enormous fleet of trucks that Amazon uses does not exactly do wonders for the environment. That is why Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos just made an announcement that the company has bought 100,000 electric trucks that will help to drastically reduce the carbon footprint of the company. Climate change is an issue that is very important to Bezos. He has been thinking about switching to electric cars for a very long time. He felt the time was finally right to make the move.

Large companies like Amazon are always under fire for not doing enough to help the environment and prevent climate change. President Donald Trump has been rolling back environmental regulations that were put into place by President Obama. Therefore, it has become easier for large corporations to pollute the environment without any consequences. According to The Wall Street Journal, Bezos wants Amazon to lead the way when it comes to protecting the environment. He hopes that other large companies around the world will follow his lead and invest in electric vehicles whenever it is possible.

2040 is the year that Amazon is hoping to reach carbon emissions of net zero. Whether or not they reach that goal will depend on other moves they make in the future. Amazon still has a large fleet of planes. It is not known what moves that Bezos will make to reduce the carbon footprint of the planes. The fleet of trucks is definitely a step in the right direction. It sets a very good example for corporate America. It remains to be seen if any other huge corporations will decide to invest in electric vehicles to the extent that Amazon has done so.

Jeff Bezos also said that the company would be announcing other plans to help prevent climate change and global warming. These announcements will be made during the next few months. It is not clear when the electric trucks will start to be used for deliveries by Amazon. Bezos did not give a time frame. It is not known if they will be in use during the holiday season later this year. Amazon has done many things at their offices to be friendly to the environment over the years. They have started mandatory recycling programs to reduce the amount of plastic in landfills.
