If you’ve ever wondered why an advertisement follows you from a website you haven’t visited in hours, it’s probably because of Taboola. This company creates content recommendation advertisements across a wide range of websites. Considering that, Android users might be seeing from Taboola than they ever expected to.

The Wall Street Journal reports that a deal was recently signed between ZTE Corp. and Taboola. This partnership will display recommended news stories on certain models of Android mobile devices. While there are no current exact details in regard to whose content will be featured, Taboola has worked many large news companies in the past. In fact, companies that have partnered with Taboola in the past include Huffington Post, USA Today, and MSN. As a result of this agreement, ZTE would receive a portion of ad revenue obtained through consumers using this service.

A notable between this service and Apple News is that Android’s version won’t be within an app. Instead, this service will begin displaying news stories on a user’s lock screen while they’re not actively using the device. There is another distinction between this service and Apple news that publishers are likely to love. Currently, many content creators feel that larger advertising services are being more restrictive than in the past. Those using Android’s software will be taken directly to the publisher’s website, allowing those writing content to have more control over advertisements and revenue.

To summarize, a new service will soon be launched within many Android users mobile devices. This service aims to offer what iPhone users see with Apple news. That being said, it’s worth noting that that this service isn’t technically an app. Instead, it will begin displaying news stories on the lock screen of inactive Android users. However, it remains to be seen if this service has what it takes to compete with Apple News and other news services.
