President Trump didn’t say much about technology when Nancy Pelosi sat behind him and invented a new seal-type clap at the State of the Union address. The New York Times said Trump avoided bringing up the technology race that’s going on between China and the United States for a good reason. It’s a high stake 5G tech game, and the winner gets to $123 billion within the next five years. Even President Trump thinks that amount of coin is worth a trade war with China and few missed chicken-fried-rice dinners in Beijing.

The Trump administration started the trade war to force China to lower tariffs on American-made cars. But some tech experts don’t think the car tariff issue is the only issue. According to several news reports, the recent arrest of Huawei’s CFO in Vancouver by Canadian officials was not a typical international arrest. Meng Wanzhou is the daughter of Huawei’s founder. The U.S. wanted to arrest her but that move might make President Xi come out that Hong Kong suit and into his military-style khakis.

The Canadians put an ankle bracelet on Meng’s leg and the customs officials told her to sit tight until the U.S. sends the extradition papers. The Maple Leaf officials also made her put up $5 million in bail. When that happened, most people didn’t connect the dots between Huawei, the U.S., China, and the 5G network.

But President Trump couldn’t help himself. He had to let the 5G cat out of the bag, reveals SCMP.com. He told the press he would be open to making a deal with Huawei so Meng could go home. Mr. Trump unintentionally told the world China and the U.S. were talking more about future 5G rights than dropping the tariff on a Cadillac in China.
Huawei is a powerhouse in the tech industry. Meng Wanzhou is a power player. The U.S. seems to be on a” let’s get Huawei out of the worldwide 5G race kick.” And Meng is Trump’s 5G hostage, according to several news stories. T-Mobile calls Huawei a trade secret stealer and a spy. Those allegations were enough to throw a little rumor rain on China’s 5G parade.

Germany, Canada, Japan, and other European countries are nervous about Huawei’s relationship with the Chinese government thanks to all the spy shade the U.S. companies keep throwing at Huawei.

But China and Huawei know how to deal with Trump. They saw Nancy Pelosi do it with a clap.
