The next version of Android, currently named Android P, is out for developers and there’s some new features worth looking at. The official version won’t be out until later in the fall, but the sneak peak offers an idea of what Android users can look forward to in the next release.

Visual
Android is getting a face-lift with softer colors. They’ve replaced the square corners with round ones for a smooth and polished look. The notification tray fits into the overall color scheme and blends well into the new look.

Notifications
Notifications are convenient when you don’t want to open an app or view a full message. Android already leads the way for the quality of notifications and it’s likely that they will continue to improve. They include more information, photos, and smart replies to make it more convenient to use your phone.

Media update
An update to media management is long overdue and Android P has finally addressed it. It’s now possible to control media devices connected to your device through Bluetooth when you tap on your volume controls. It shows both all available devices and the devices you’re connected to.

Screenshots
More and more people screenshot information to share on social media or save for reference. It’s time for Android to catch up to iOS and they’re adding a feature to edit screenshots right from your notifications bar. Draw, write, or crop information right after capturing. Productivity seems like it’s the key focus for this upcoming version of Android.

Security
One of the flaws people cite when discussing Android is how it isn’t as secure as iOS. These updates are mostly done in the background and not visible to the user, but improve protection from malware and spyware. It lets you lock down your device immediately using your fingerprint if necessary.

Developers need to work out the kinks and bugs before it is officially available for the public. The sneak peek looks promising as it adds new features and improves the current ones.
