Toronto’s Eastern region, a new modern city, is being developed by Sidewalk Company. The company responsible is maintained by Google. The firm anticipates that the project that is underway will become a model that fits the 21st- century urban development. However, the deal has been faced with multiple controversies representing the most significant tie-ups in modern history between a major city and a big company. Coupled with that fact the organization in question is one of the most significant technology companies around the globe. This is causing some unease.
The firm promised to transform the unused waterfront area into a lively metropolis. The company will use the municipality that was created on the internet up. However, no timetable has informed the public on when the city will start to be build. The head Sidewalk lab and former mayor of New York, Dan Doctoroff, addressed the press revealing that the project was all about developing a healthier, more convenient, safer and more fun to live in kind of city. Dan stated that the company’s primary aim was to develop a model that will resemble and reflect what an urban life could look like in the 21st century. The area will be fitted with sensors that will consistently be taking information from noise, the days traffic and the degree of air freshness. The sensors will also be evaluating the waste collection systems and electric grid on a regular basis.
The model developed by Sidewalk lab has led many people like Toronto’s deputy Mayor to ask what the organization intended to achieve at the end of the whole project. Denzil was eager to know what the data that will be gathered by the sensors will be used for. Such vital information is essential for Toronto City.The company confirmed that the sensors wouldn’t be programmed to monitor and pick information from the citizens. The sensors primary aim is to allow governments to be flexible on how neighborhoods can be used. Mr Wong reported that he was very concerned that the organization was not open with its data. The firm was only noted talking about open data but from the word go they did not agree with Waterfront Toronto open to the public.
Waterfront is the firm that is responsible for revitalizing the area around Toronto’s harbor. Before, Sidewalk organization stroke a deal that it was going to cover 12-acres, but according to reports, they wish to expand the area which is about 325 acres. This will be a massive land-grab.
