The chief executive and founder of Gojek, Nadiem Makarim, on Monday noted he has resigned from his position at company to join Indonesian government. The declaration, which has overwhelmed many, comes a day after Widodo was confirmed for a subsequent term as the President of Indonesia. Widodo has recently noted that he needed youthful business officials to join his government. In an announcement, a Gojek representative revealed that Andre Soelistyo, who is the Gojek Group President, together with Kevin Aluwi will be taking over as co-CEOs of the company. Mr. Aluwi is one of the company’s benefactors.

The firm’s spokesperson noted that the company was exceptionally pleased that its founder would assume such a unique role in transforming Indonesia onto a global power. It was exceptional for an enthusiastic local founder’s vision to be perceived as a model that can be up-scaled to steer the advancement of the entire nation. The company’s spokesperson went on to reveal that the firm was prepared for the disruption and that there would be no disturbance to the company’s business. The firm declined to reveal on what the news implied for Makarim joining the Indonesian Cabinet. The firm noted that it would report on the same in a couple of days. With regards to the procedure that had been set out by the Indonesian President, the firm respected the decision. The organization noted that it was not going to make any further remark until there was an official declaration from the Palace.

Makarim said he was honored that the President had requested him to join his government as a minister. However, the Indonesian President had not announced which position Makarim would hold. The President noted that he would announce the positions in the following week. Makarim gave remarks saying that he was delighted to be in the Cabinet as it demonstrated that Indonesia was prepared for advancement to become a world leader. Makarim, 35, established Gojek in 2010 as a two-wheeler administration. The startup has since extended to incorporate a scope of other services. These include online mobile payments, food and drinks delivery, web-based shopping, and, most recently, video streaming.

The business has amassed over 2 million driver-partners and 400,000 merchants. Gojek was valued at nearly $10 billion in its latest financing round. The organization, which deploys services in Vietnam, Singapore, and Thailand, crossed gross exchanges worth $9 billion a year ago. Makarim originates from a prominent family in Indonesia. His parents are anti-corruption activists, while his granddad is an independence legend.
