Opera has launched a new web browser for Android devices. As reported by The Verge, Opera Touch features several upgrades to improve its versatility as a mobile web browser. The new Android browser is designed to simplify the process of browsing the internet and navigating websites on a mobile device.

Statistics show that 92 percent of U.S. adults between the ages of 18 and 29 own a smartphone. These high-tech mobile devices offer more than just voice calling; they allow users to search the internet and access websites just like desktop computers. But the nuances in display size and input method between creates issues with mobile internet usage. When browsing the internet on a smartphone, for instance, you must type the address into the browser’s bar, which is often small and difficult to use.

Opera Touch offers a fresh new take mobile web browsing. Upon launching the app on your Android device, it brings up the address bar in which you can type the address of the website that you want to visit. Opera Touch also features bookmarks and shortcuts at the bottom of the page. When you scroll up just slightly, the browser will reveal these buttons at the bottom. Here, you can add web pages to your bookmarks, visit web pages that have already been bookmarked, access other tabs or create a new tab.

Furthermore, Opera Touch is equipped with a built-in ad blocker and cryptojacking cybersecurity software. Millions of internet users now use ad blockers to improve their browsing experience. Opera Touch’s ad blocker is designed to prevent ads from displaying on websites. Like all ad blockers, it doesn’t catch 100 percent of online ads. It will, however, filter the majority of ads that users encounter online.

The original Opera web browser has origins dating back to the mid-1990s, during which it was released to the public as a Microsoft Windows browser. Since then, developers have continued to optimize and improve the browser. The current version of the Opera web browser includes a variety of features such as private browsing, gestures, extensions, download manager and tabs.

Of course, there’s already an Opera web browser available for Android. With more than 2.4 million downloads and a 4.5-star rating, Opera has become a popular web browser among Android users. Opera Touch, however, is designed specifically for mobile devices. Although it’s currently only available for Android, Opera Touch is expected to roll out to Apple in the near future.
