There are so many ways you can optimize your Android phone, or any phone, to make it more functional and enjoyable. You can change the font size. You can change the font style. You can change the color scheme. You can change the default language. You can change the default launcher. You also have options to make your phone more secure, add more storage, make it easier to use, or improve battery life.

1. Stop Auto-syncing Your Data

You can stop auto-syncing your data by going to Settings > Accounts and clicking the menu button. Then, choose “Accounts to Sync” and uncheck any accounts you don’t want to be synced. Automatic syncing drains your battery because your device constantly looks for new data. Disabling auto-sync will improve performance and save battery life on devices running Android 4.0 or later. Your data will still be available if you need to sync manually in the future, so there’s no risk of losing anything by disabling this feature.

2. Turn Off Unnecessary Notifications

One of the easiest ways to speed up your phone and increase its battery life is by changing how it deals with notifications. Notifications are messages that appear onscreen when an app needs your attention. They can be useful, but they can also be annoying by constantly popping up on your screen and distracting you from what you’re doing. They also waste energy because they use your phone’s processor to switch to a new screen every time they show up.

3. Install Adblocker and Disable Ads

While it’s true that many apps are free and supported by ads, if you’re looking for longer battery life and less data consumption, you can use adblockers. Ads can drain your battery, take up a large portion of your screen space and eat up your precious data. Some users only wish to get rid of the annoyance factor of ads; others are more interested in conserving their device’s power or reducing data consumption.

4. Stop the Facebook App From Killing Your Battery

It’s no secret that the Facebook app is a battery hog. It constantly runs in the background, doing who knows what. Go to Settings > Apps and look for “Facebook” to save some battery life. Tap on it, then click on the “Disable” button. This will stop apps from running in the background, but you can still use them when you want to. You can do this with other apps if they keep draining your battery while running in the background.
