Verizon revealed new plans for 5G internet, and fans of ultra-fast connections felt pleased. The telecommunications giant suggested it will offer 5G in homes. The holdup, however, would involve the company’s mobile service locations. Basically, Verizon will match 5G home internet in areas where it offers mobile 5G.
Don’t expect millions of people to sign up for Verizon’s 5G Home service right away. The company has not rolled out 5G in many cities, so far. The growth of Verizon’s 5G mobile service moves slowly, which is expected. 5G relies on a high-band frequency that suffers from technological limitations. 5G, while incredibly fast, cannot cover massive distance easily. Reaching indoor spaces also proves difficult at times. Even if 5G Home becomes available in a particular city, only a slim number of subscribers can signup. Again, distance limitations make access impossible.
While many would-consumers feel enthused about 5G, the frequency requires some improvements before anyone gives up wired systems. All these issues, however, will likely go away in time. Verizon plays a long-term strategy with its initial rollout of 5G.
Engineers work hard at improving technology and service. The problems currently inherent with 5G should experience a resolution in time. Verizon knows by entering the 5G marketplace now that the company gains a foothold.
Unfortunately, Verizon also risks dealing with negative publicity with the early rollout. In embarrassing fashion, Verizon offered 5G in select football stadiums and not every seat could pick up the signal. While other companies would likely deal with the same problem, Verizon gets ahead of them in negative publicity.
Verizon wants to minimize embarrassments and hopes consumers have short memories. In time, the foibles of early 5G mobile troubles might pass into history. Other companies overcame worse scenarios and eventually rose to great success with a particular service.
