Government contractors face a constant stream of audits, and each one demands careful records. Margarita Howard, sole owner, CEO, and president of HX5, sees artificial intelligence as a way to manage that load without sacrificing accuracy.
Howard explains that AI systems can help track and organize the detailed documentation federal audits require. The technology handles the organizing, which frees employees to concentrate on more sophisticated work while records stay precise for regulators.
Getting Ahead of the Curve
Howard did not wait for AI to become mainstream. “We try to stay ahead of changing technologies, AI, and cybersecurity. I saw it was important to get started on it early and so we have,” she said.
Beyond compliance, AI supports proposal development, which Howard considers essential. A good proposal must accurately show a company’s capabilities and solutions, a task that combines technical knowledge with clear writing.
HX5 is a Florida-based contractor providing STEM support services to NASA and the Department of Defense. It employs more than 1,000 people at 90 government locations across 34 states and is service-disabled veteran and women-owned.
Technology and the Next Workforce
Modern tools also help HX5 attract younger workers. Gen Z grew up with digital technology and, according to Home Business Magazine, refuses to tolerate outdated systems. HX5 has added instant messaging, interactive project management, and hybrid work where security allows.
Johns Hopkins University research projects that Gen Z will make up roughly 30% of the workforce by 2030, so meeting their expectations carries real weight.
Howard also anticipates changes on the government side. “We believe that in the years to come, and certainly by 2035, government agencies will increasingly utilize AI to streamline procurement processes, evaluate contractor performance, and probably predict future needs based on historical data that they collect,” she said.
If agencies adopt AI as she expects, contractors with clean records and digital fluency will be better positioned. Margarita Howard has spent years preparing HX5 for exactly that moment. Read this article for additional information.
