One of Hern’s earliest successes was as Founder and Board Member of Newhomes.com. New Home Reality specialized in assisting relocation buyers in purchasing newly constructed houses. The Newhomes.com web-enabled tech platform generates and distributes leads to real estate agents. The Forum allows the company to establish a national presence without the cost of a brick and mortar real estate brokerage firm. By keeping the important aspects of the brokerage business while cutting the overhead fat, Hern demonstrated with Newhomes.com that he could outperform and underspend tradition business models.

Hern co-founded and served as the Director of Inktomi Goldman Sachs-led IPO (INKT), which was the search technology for MSN, Yahoo and AOL. For anyone under 20, AOL and Yahoo might not ring a bell but to a large generation of internet users were Yahoo was the original google and AOL or America Online was the internet browser around until internet explorer came on the scene. Make no bones about it Inktomi Goldman Sachs-led IPO will go down in the annuls of history. And Hern was right there in the thick of it.

Hern also co-founded and acted as director of Yesmail Alex Brown led IPO (YESM). YESM was an email marketing and web directory startup that went public and then sold to now ModusLink Global Solutions, for $650 million less than a year later.

Hern has also used his talents to serve the needs of the military. He co-founded Military Commercial Technologies a technology commercialization incubator funded by Lockheed and L-3, and served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Further, Mr. Hern co-founded and served as Director for Arcsight (ARST), a cyber security company, which again went public and sold out to HP for $1.5 billion.

From 2005-2007 Hern turned his efforts towards serving on the Board of Agiliance, a Big Data Risk Company. Agiliance is an independent provider of integrated solutions for Operational and Security Risk programs. Agiliance RiskVision works with businesses, managing assets, data, people, and processes to attain total risk and compliance coverage. Agiliance RiskVision real-time risk analysis leads to optimized business performance and better investment decisions. And once again we have Mr. Hern to thank for guiding the company in its early years.
